Participants will leave with practical strategies to support their child's growth at home, including simple ways to incorporate elements of the Depth & Complexity Framework to foster creative and critical thinking while strengthening the home-school partnership.

Parents/guardians,
In preparation for the Oct. 2 rivalry football game between the Cedar High School Reds and the Canyon View High School Falcons, we wanted to share a few instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.
First, we want to recognize our partnership with Utah Summer Games and Southern Utah University. The use of the SUU Eccles Coliseum allows us to welcome about 11,000 spectators to the popular Coal Creek Classic. With that invite comes required security regulations not present at typical high school games.
Please be aware of and adhere to SUU’s clear bag policy. An outline of that policy with what is allowed in the stadium is attached. Fans not adhering to that policy will be asked to return the non-compliant bag to their vehicle before admission is allowed. Additionally, SUU is strongly discouraging any use of confetti and glitter.
As we get closer to the game, schools will communicate with students and parents more information about pre-game ticket purchases, tailgating activities, parking and more.
We are looking forward to a great game as two of our local teams compete for the Pickaxe trophy.

* Slow to 20 MPH in a School Zone when lights are on.
* Prior to entering school zone, be aware of walking, biking students making their way to school.
* Drivers must come to a complete stop and remain stopped for any person occupying a school crosswalk — regardless of which side of the road the pedestrian is on. Do not proceed until student and/or crossing guard is on the sidewalk.
* Know the bus stops in your neighborhood. Drive slowly when approaching a bus during pick up and drop off.
* Stop! Do not pass if bus Stop Arm is out!

The Board of Education will consider a change to the 2026-27 school year calendar during its regular board meeting on Aug. 25.
The change request follows the release of the Utah High School Activities Association’s schedule for athletic events. The 2026-27 school year calendar includes high school graduations on May 19. The UHSSA schedule for May 2027 schedules state tournaments for track and field, boys soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse and tennis that same week. The UHSAA calendar was released after Iron County School District’s calendar was approved.
State athletic tournaments, especially track and field, impact many seniors. School administrators approached the district with their concerns for those students who may have to choose between their sport and graduation.
The board will consider a recommendation to change graduation to Monday, May 24, for Launch and Southwest Education Academy and Tuesday, May 25, for Canyon View, Cedar and Parowan high schools. The last day of school would be moved to Wednesday, May 26. A professional day for teachers would be held May 27. School would still end before Memorial Day because the holiday is on May 31 in 2027.
The board will also consider a proposal to make up those extra four days by moving the start of winter break to Dec. 21, adding an extra day to fall break and scheduling the Friday before President’s day as a holiday.
Public comment is scheduled during the Aug. 25 meeting which begins at 5:30 p.m. Board meetings are held in the district office, 2077 W. Royal Hunte Drive.
