To celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Day, our local McDonald’s owner/operators have approved a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 7 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. where 20% of all digital sales during that period will be tracked and donated to the Iron County School District Foundation. Important Message about XLT Parents, I feel the need to reiterate the importance of XLT at Cedar High School. We are seeing an increase in parents excusing their student(s) during this time which is showing us that the value of this time isn't what it needs to be. Last school year, we sent out a survey asking for your input about XLT and whether or not we should have it at all. The survey results overwhelmingly came back in support of having XLT and having it more than 1 day a week. So with this information we are asking for your help. Please help us in supporting the XLT time by encouraging your student to attend regularly and to take advantage of all it has to offer. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: What is XLT? XLT is Extended Learning Time. Time built into the schedule for remediation and getting help from teachers. When is XLT? Monday - Thursdays from 2:07 - 2:45. This is the last period of the day. School dismisses at 2:45 each day. XLT is NOT after school. How does it work? On Monday, ALL students are tagged to their XLT/CCR Teacher. Students are given College & Career Readiness Lessons, Life Launch Lessons, Counseling Information, School information and other activities associated with CCR. Tuesday - Thursday are tagging days. Students that are NOT tagged are excused at 2:07 pm. Does my student earn a grade and is attendance taken? Yes. Students earn credit for XLT. Attendance is taken and a P or F grade is earned. It also counts towards eligibility for extra-curricular. How can my student benefit from this time? -Attend when tagged -Ask to be tagged by teachers -Participate and ask questions in regards to CCR lessons and activities -Homework, study time -Personal research of careers. All students have a You Science account with access to thousands of careers and resources. Who can drop XLT? -Only seniors that have a 4th period home release Thank you for your help and support of this very important learning extension period. Sincerely Mrs Sanders

Due to snow accumulation, all Iron County School District schools will follow a two-hour delayed start on Thursday, Jan. 11.. School start times and transportation schedules will run two hours later than normal. Morning preschool is canceled. Please check secondary bell schedules for specific class period start times. The school day will end at the regular time. Early morning practices and other before school activities will not be held. Any field trips scheduled for departure at the beginning of the school day are also canceled. If the weather continues to create unsafe conditions, more information will be communicated by 8 a.m. As during all adverse conditions, we encourage parents to make attendance decisions for their children based on their specific ability to get to school safely. We trust parents to make the ultimate call when it comes to their child's safety. Teachers will work with students to make up any missed assignments.

ICSD Alert: We received a hoax generic email this morning threatening explosives inside of every school in our district. No school or district name was mentioned. We have been in contact with police and they are being extra vigilant today. Weber, Cache and Box Elder districts as well as several in Idaho have received the same hoax email. We believe this threat is unsubstantiated and it is safe to hold school. We will continue to monitor the situation and if there are updates, we will send those along. We ask that you report any suspicious activity immediately. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this situation.

On a special night at Cedar High where 3 time State Champion Matt Carter was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame, as well as Senior night for the Reds, Cedar retained the Bell in the duel between the Reds and the Flyers. The night started with the ceremonies for the Seniors and Carter and then the Reds quickly got things going with Ian Po’uha winning the first match on the night 6-4, followed by forfeits for Max Diaz and Ben Hruby for the Reds giving the home team a 15-0 lead in the duel. Dixie countered with 3 wins in a row to push the team scores to 15-13 before Kian Pulsipher picked up a big pin just seconds before time expired in the 3rd period to push the Reds score up to 21-13. Andres Valencia won by fall in the second period of his match and Truitt Purcell outlasted his man picking up a 9-6 victory pushing the score to 30-13 in favor of the Reds. Dixie then picked up a pin at 157 lbs to cut the Reds lead to 11 at 30-19. That was it for the Flyers though as the next four Cedar Wrestlers all picked up pins early in their match to seal the victory and keep the bell in the Reds possesion. Cooper Jolley pinned his man in the 2nd period, Justin Anderson, Marshal LeClair and Aiden Po’uha each pinned their opponents in the first period of their matches making the final score 54-19. Way to go Boys!

ICSD Alert: Cedar High is conducting a Hold drill. A Hold Action is used when the hallways in the school need to remain clear. Classroom learning will still take place as normal during a Hold. Students may not be able to change classes until the Hold is lifted. In the event of an actual Hold Action, parents will be informed once the school has full and accurate information.
