The Reds and Falcons opened the season at Cedar High on Tuesday night as Cedar picked up the first win of the 2023-24 season 43-34 over Canyon View. The Reds struggled to get into a rhythm offensively in the first quarter only getting 6 points but the defense kept them in it only allowing CV 9. The Reds battled back and took a lead early in 2nd quarter but the Falcons kept it close and hit two free throws at the end of the half to give CV a 17-15 lead going into the half. The Reds came out of the half with purpose outscoring the Falcons 16-11 in the third quarter and finished the Falcons off by dominating the 4th quarter as well to secure the Victory. Gabby Gomez led all scorers on the game with 14 points to go along with 3 assists. Kelsey Orton and Kiara Hansen each put up 8 points on the night with Orton hitting 2 big 3 pointers in the second half. Mya Bishoff contributed 2 triples in the first half to give her 6 points, while Shimada added 5 and Kenzie Bird contributed a jumper for 2 points. The Reds were led in rebounding by Kiara Hansens 10 boards on the night. Great Job Girls!!!

Ballots are arriving in mailboxes soon for the November election. The Iron County School District has a tax neutral bond on the ballot. We would like to encourage parents to educate themselves on the bond issue, as well as the candidates and other issues on the ballot, and then be sure to vote. Each Year the Cedar Reds and Canyon View Falcons play a "Pink Game" in honor of a breast cancer patient or family that has lost someone due to this disease. This year, the game will be played in memory of Sarah Hartmann, who passed away Aug. 26th after a hard battle with breast cancer. There will be a silent auction with all proceeds going to the family of Sarah Hartmann. The game will be held at Cedar High tonight, Oct. 4th @ 7pm. Come out and support the teams in this great cause and enjoy a night of some good volleyball. The Reds are currently in 6th place in the 4A RPI and Canyon View is sitting at #4 in the 3A RPI.
